Mary Valley Social Media

The Queensland Government was looking to sell the 480 properties it acquired as part of the failed Traveston Dam project, with the goal of rebuilding the community that fought vigorously to stop the dam’s construction.

Three Plus was contracted to deliver communications and issues management as part of the Mary Valley Economic Development policy. A key part of the strategy was the creation of a Facebook page to engage with the local community.

Three Plus identified Facebook as being the most effective platform to engage the local community and created a “Grow with the Mary Valley” Facebook page to support the traditional media relations and community events already associated with the project.

Three Plus used their existing protocol surrounding social media management to deliver the Government a weekly roster of posts to be reviewed and approved before they were posted.

Three Plus also monitored the page seven days a week to ensure they were able to respond and reply promptly to any negative chat.

The “Grow with the Mary Valley” page has received almost 1,400 likes and stimulated a large amount of clicks through to the government website, with a recent post successfully driving 486 users forward.

Just as importantly, the community are now the project’s best advocates, sharing news and comments with their friends and broadening the reach of each and every post.
